Olga Ryabtsova has pursued art since childhood, earning her Master’s Degree in Illustration and Graphic Design from the Moscow University of Graphic Arts. Early in her career, she worked as an Art Director for advertising agencies and later as a photojournalist and commercial photographer. This strong background in visual communication continues to inform her artistic vision, design sense, and approach to storytelling.
After moving to California in 2015, Olga became inspired by the native flora and botanical gardens of Southern California. She turned her focus to botanical art, studying and refining her practice through workshops, independent research, and field observation. Her work spans watercolor, oil painting, etching, silverpoint, ceramics, and printmaking, and she is known for combining traditional techniques with modern and digital approaches, often experimenting with new materials and processes to push the boundaries of botanical art. She works both on location and in the studio, capturing plants with scientific accuracy and expressive artistry.
Olga conducts workshops for adults and has served as Exhibition Chair of the Botanical Artists Guild of Southern California, curating exhibitions that highlight the beauty of plants and the importance of botanical art today.
She is also a member of Lynk Collective, a group of Southern California printmakers dedicated to collaboration and exhibitions that showcase a wide range of printmaking techniques.
Through her multifaceted work – as an exhibiting artist, educator, and collaborator – Olga continues to explore the intersections of art, science, and experimentation, celebrating the natural world and encouraging others to connect with it through creativity.
